Collections
Okay, so I started collecting “Mary’s” after I got intrigued when learning of her true self… Meanwhile, I think my collection now contains 250+ photos of different Mary’s. And growing (but not so fast now, at lockdown)
She is called Mother of God, Queen of Heaven, Mary. Or is she Semiramis…
Her attributes are the crescent moon, a snake under her feet, a (sometimes towering) crown, a scepter, a seashell, sometimes she has a crown that looks like a castle. She is the female archetype of a goddess. But although she is mostly regarded as the virgin mother of Christ, there is doubt that’s who she really is. For her history goes way beyond the history of the mother of Christ, even to the age of Nimrod. It is interesting to note that “Notre Dame” cathedrals in France are built on locations that were of old places of worship, temples for the Queen of Heaven, Astarte, in Chaldean: Ishtar or Beltis. One cannot dismiss that these Notre Dames churches are primarily places for the worship of Mary, the Queen of Heaven. Especially the cathedral of Chartres is hugely interesting with its (copy of an) ancient Black Madonna and ‘sacred well’.
It is apparent from all these pictures that the type of Mary has inspired many artists into making very lovely and graceful statues and images.
What do you think? I’ld like to hear your side.
